Catalyst - strategic plan for the 21-22 academic year

Libraries enter year two of strategic plan

The University Libraries recently launched year two of its current strategic planning process. Catalyst, the Libraries’ strategic plan, is a nimble approach to strategic planning grounded in the Libraries’ mission, vision, and values, and focused on three overarching goals. Annually, the Libraries articulate and implement actionable priorities.

This year, the plan comprises three strategic initiatives designed to meet the three established strategic goals. The initiatives were selected to continue the research and work completed last year while advancing the Libraries towards achieving the goals outlined in Catalyst.

“I am sincerely grateful to our colleagues who dedicated their time to advancing our strategic plan in the 2021 academic year and am thrilled to welcome both new and returning staff and librarians to this year’s working groups,” said Dean and University Librarian Jerome Conley.

Libraries staff and librarians are collaborating in three working groups to implement action plans for each initiative. The working groups will support staff professional development, market virtual services, and foster meaningful partnerships. While executing these initiatives, workgroups will integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles to ensure the work completed supports an inclusive environment for all.

The Libraries’ commitment to continuous improvement is represented in this newest iteration of Catalyst, explains Conley. “This strategic plan is flexible by design because we need a living, actionable document to guide our path. So, as circumstances change — in the Libraries, on campus, and elsewhere — we adapt and make meaningful changes based on the lessons we learn.”

The three teams are eager to put the plan into action and collaborate to increase services, opportunities, and inclusion for every scholar in the community.
